Toronto police say they don't expect to lay any charges against the mother of a newborn boy who was allegedly found abandoned outside a commercial plaza Tuesday morning.

Police were initially told the baby was found outdoors, but details about the incident have shifted and it is now unclear if the newborn was abandoned.

Other details about case also remained unclear.

The baby remained in critical condition Wednesday morning, police said. The mother is also receiving medical treatment.

On Tuesday, police received a call about a baby that had been rushed to "a place of safety," reportedly after it was found outside.

Const. Gary Long confirmed the baby was born premature.

No one is in custody and investigators are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident, police said.
