How to get your ideas, photos, videos onto CBC Ottawa
It's easier than you might think
The CBC Ottawa news team is always looking for great content and great ideas, and today's technology makes it easier than ever before to share it with us.
Is there a particular issue you think deserves coverage? Did you see the fire in your neighbourhood before firefighters arrived? Has something happened to you that you think Ottawans really need to know about?
Whatever is going on, our newsroom-wide email is the best way to make yourself heard by our assignment editors and our web team. Just send a note to email@example.com and be sure to leave a phone number we can use to reach you. That's often the quickest way for us to get in touch with you if we're interested, and that's important because we're often working on very, very tight deadlines for radio, television and our website.
Pro tip: If you've witnessed something, if you have photos or video of a breaking news event, it's best to let us know that same day. And if you think we've missed something in the shuffle, feel free to send it twice.
Are you the kind of person who logs onto Twitter as soon as breaking news hits? You're not alone, and that's why our CBC Ottawa Twitter account is monitored throughout the day (and into the evening) by a large contingent of journalists in our newsroom, from assignment editors to web producers and reporters.
Maybe you think we're missing an important angle in our live coverage of an event. Maybe we have a reporter at a press conference and there's a question you'd like us to ask. Or maybe you're tweeting photos from a crime scene before we've even arrived. Just mention @CBCOttawa, or send us a direct message, and we'll see it. With your permission, and if it meets our standards, we will often feature your photos and videos on our website and credit you for it.
Pro tip: The #ottnews hashtag is also monitored by a lot of journalists in Ottawa on Twitter. It's a good way to get noticed if you have something important to share.
We're always sharing our stories on Facebook and we get a lot of comments on them. Sometimes people share their ideas for follow-up stories or different angles. Sometimes people share similar stories they've experienced. You can do the same! Visit the CBC Ottawa Facebook page and 'like' us to stay connected to what we're posting.
Pro tip: While you can't post messages to our wall, you can always send us private messages. That's a good way to get in touch if you don't want other people to see it.
