A Hamilton man has been arrested after, police say, he hit and killed a pedestrian with his vehicle then drove away Monday afternoon.

The 49-year-old was driving through the parking lot at Lime Ridge Mall around 4:33 p.m. when he struck and killed a 71-year-old man, according to police.

He then left the area "without providing any information or assistance to injured pedestrian."

Witnesses helped police find the suspect nearby and he was arrested and charged with dangerous driving causing death and failing to remain at the scene.

Police will be canvassing the area for witnesses Tuesday and are asking anyone with video footage of the crash to call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at (905) 546-4753 or (905) 546-4755.
